Explanation of Silver Eligibility
Silver Benefits Established
Effective May 1, 2011, the Trustees of the Plans have created a special category of benefits called Silver Benefits for individuals who perform laborers work under a collective bargaining agreement with any of the following employers:
- Roosevelt Memorial Park (Heavy & Highway)
- Forrest Hills Cemetery (Heavy & Highway)
- Any other employer required to contribute on behalf of its employees pursuant to a collective bargaining agreement specifying that each employee's hours of service shall be credited toward Silver Benefits only.
Hours of work for these employers are taken into account under the Plans only for purposes of Silver Benefits. Such hours of work cannot be used to establish eligibility toward the Plans' Gold or Bronze Benefits and cannot otherwise be combined with hours of work credited toward Gold or Bronze Benefits. This means that, if your employer contributes towards Silver Benefits on your behalf, your hours of work for such employer are credited solely and exclusively towards Silver Benefits.
Eligibility Criteria for Silver Benefits
- For purposes of Silver Benefit eligibility, only hours of service from an employer identified in the section above are taken into account during a given work period.
- A member must complete at least 600 hours of work during the applicable work period to become eligible for Silver Benefits (Level One).
- If the member completes at least 450 hours but less than 600 hours during the applicable work period, the member will only be eligible for Silver Benefits (Level Two).
- A member remains eligible for Silver Benefits (Level One) until the member fails to complete at least 600 hours of work during the applicable work period.
- A member is not eligible for Silver Benefits (Level Two) if the member works less than 450 hours during the applicable work period.
- A member remains eligible for Silver Benefits (Level Two) until the member fails to complete at least 450 hours of work during the applicable work period.
